Brian Mandell received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine, New York City, and a PhD in physiology and biophysics from Washington University School of Medicine, St Louis, Missouri. He completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in rheumatology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
The author of more than 150 journal articles, books, book chapters, editorials, and abstracts, Dr Mandell is section editor (acute rheumatic disease) for the Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, Editor in Chief of the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, Editor of the 14th edition of the American College of Physicians' MKSAP rheumatology section, and a member of the clinical advisory board for Epocrates. He is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Rheumatology, and has been repeatedly listed in Best Doctors in America.
