Susan Manzi graduated from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana and received her MD from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her medical internship and residency at Duke University Medical Center and her fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as an MPH from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.
A member of the Cardiovascular Institute of the UPMC Health System, Dr Manzi is recognized internationally as a leader in lupus patient care and research, and is a pioneer in the scientific investigation of cardiovascular disease in patients with SLE. She has served on several Special Emphasis Panels for the NIH and is on the Editorial Board of Arthritis and Rheumatism. Dr Manzi has published over 100 reports of clinical and epidemiological research in lupus and related diseases, with a major emphasis on pathogenesis and associated risk factors of premature cardiovascular disease in young women with SLE. In 2001, she co-founded the Lupus Center of Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh, which attracts patients from around the world.
