Project title: Role of Synoviocyte Cadherin-11 in Inflammatory Arthritis

Dr Agarwal is researching a novel adhesion molecule recently identified on synovial fibroblasts called cadherin-11. Cadherin-11 is a critical mesenchymal adhesion molecule that plays an important role in tissue morphogenesis as well as cell migration and invasion. Dr Agarwal is investigating how cadherin-11 influences the architecture of the synovial lining and the response of the synovium to inflammatory stimuli. The insights gained from these studies will provide further understanding of the complex physiology of synovial inflammation and have relevance for inflammatory arthritides such as RA.
