Tuhina Neogi received her MD from the University of Toronto, Canada, and is currently working towards her DSc in Epidemiology from Boston University School of Public Health, Massachusetts. Dr Neogi has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Arthritis Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, the ACR Rheumatology Fellow Award for meritorious performance throughout training, and the Arthritis Society Clinical Fellowship Award in Rheumatology. She has written papers appearing in such journals as Arthritis and Rheumatism, Journal of Rheumatology, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, and Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Project title: Vitamin K, Osteoarthritis and Chondrocalcinosis
Dr Neogi is researching whether low vitamin K status, as assessed by dietary intake and biochemical measures, is associated with osteoarthritis and chondrocalcinosis, as determined by X-ray findings. If such an association is found, clinical trials could test the effects of correcting vitamin K levels on these diseases. Just as calcium and vitamin D are used to help prevent and treat osteoporosis, vitamin K would be a simple dietary supplement to help prevent and treat two common forms of arthritis, osteoarthritis and pseudogout.
